With all of its beauty and diversity, India still has one of the most heartbreaking stories within her culture imaginable, the plight of the street children, particularly street girls. For those who still observe the dowry system there, the family of girls are expected to provide a wedding payment to the family of the bridegroom. Poor families can’t afford to pay a dowry price, therefore girls belonging to poor families may never marry, and are looked upon as an extra expense to the poor families. It is for this reason that these girls are often abandoned, or even worse turned into “money makers” for the family forced to sell themselves on the streets.

A number of years ago we started the House of Hope to provide shelter, food clothes and a safe environment for girls who had this dark future ahead of them. God has provided for their physical needs as well as their spiritual needs through a loving staff, and a number of sponsoring families. The girls recently moved into their newly constructed house made possible by the sacrificial financial gifts of generous supporters. We hope to provide help for more destitute street girls in the near future.
